The project R/EVOLVE/R by Kollision ( kollision.dk ) centres on the idea of citizen participation in decision-making processes. Kollision argues that participation often comes from those in power, sometimes out of a genuine interest in the opinions of others, sometimes just as pretence in order to legitimise what has already been decided upon. The project, paradoxically, want the visitors at a larger exhibition called It’s a Small World, to participate in uncovering what it will take to make them participate. Will you get involved to make sure that you, your surroundings and your world evolves in the right direction. Or does it take a gun to your head to get you out of that comfortable armchair?

The centrepiece of the project is an interactive table that combines touch screens with a simple questionnaire and scenarios whose intention is to make the visitors think of why and when they will get involved in urban decision-making processes. The table is continuously gathering and structuring the user’s inputs. Statistics for all users are shown on a central display in relation to age, gender and location.

It’s a Small World is an exhibition about state-of-the-art within Danish design, architecture and crafts that can be seen at Danish Design Centre until the 22nd of March 2010 and then at different locations worldwide.
