A Davidson Impact Fellow in Mérida, Mexico, Melodie Mendez has often found herself working and studying abroad. While at Davidson she took advantage of grants that allowed her to study various topics in Ecuador, Spain, and Guatemala. Her diverse interests also led her to major in environmental anthropology through the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies. She feels that her extracurricular involvement, particularly her involvement with the Delta a Sigma Theta Sorority, played an instrumental role in her current work as a public policy fellow for Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya, a nonprofit organization that helps local Mayan communities develop socially, economically, and environmentally.
