Dr. Nubia Muñoz M.D., M.P.H.
Visiting Scientist, Catalan Institute of Oncology, Barcelona, Spain.
Dr. Muñoz received her MD from the Universidad del Valle, Cali, Columbia in 1964, did postgraduate studies at the US National Institutes of Health and at John Hopkins University. and continued her independent research at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Lyon, France. Dr. Muñoz' work at the IARC with teams across the world led to the establishment of the relationship between the human papilloma virus and cervical cancer. Through her remarkable accomplishments, she has become a role model for epidemiologists studying the etiology of disease. She is the inaugural recipient of the Canada Gairdner Global Health Award.
