Asbury Park is committed to organizing and executing ongoing relief efforts on behalf of Haitis earthquake victims. The citys goal is to unite city officials, business owners, community leaders and New Jersey corporations behind ongoing fundraising efforts.
The fundraising initiative will kick-off Saturday, February 6 and will overlap with First Saturday Asbury Park. The event is designed to educate attendees, encourage donations to key disaster-relief organizations, and unite people behind a concerted effort to support Haiti.
The afternoon and evening event will aim to raise awareness and funds to benefit: the American Red Cross-Jersey Coast Chapter, Coastal Habitat for Humanity, and the Ministry of Pastors for Haiti. New Jersey Natural Gas has agreed to match donations up to $10,000 dollar for dollar. Pepsi Bottling Group will donate $2,500 as part of its Pepsi Team Volunteer Project Grant. Jean Johnson and her art class from Asbury Park High School have created a commemorative piece of art for Haiti that will be displayed on Saturday, too.
