A time lapse video of an igloo I built in the backyard for the kids with all the "snowpocalypse" snow. This is the first time I've ever attempted building one. It turned out much better than I imagined. My family of five can all fit in it and it's tall enough I can stand up in it. My oldest son (just turned 7) and I slept in it last night!

Oh its still there. With the cold temps sticking around in DC it'll be there for a while. And I don't think my back has it in it to build another one with all the driveway shoveling thats in order.

When I was a kid, my neighbor up the block built one. It was the coolest thing in the world to a the neighborhood 8 yr olds.

Absolutely amazing; I'm so impressed! What a super cool dad thing to do.

  • I don't see how our video can be the greatest video ever. Clearly THIS one is the greatest. It appeals to me on so many levels: (a) I lived through the snowpocalypse in question in Sterling, VA; (b) I'm an engineer by degree and fascinated with your methods of construction (especially near the top); and (c) I'm a fellow cinematographer who digs on time lapse.

Definitely love 10:40-11:19 where we watch the reflection of the wife and kids eating dinner while dad slaves away into the night making the igloo. Easily casts my mind back to those disoriented days last February.
