Snubbers are absolutely necessary on Keuka Lake. They absorb the shock of wave action on your lines and dock cletes ensuring that the boat doesn't break loose in high wind and rough water. Keuka in the spring is known for high winds and extremely rough water...and occasionally throughout the summer. Without snubbers, one of two things WILL happen - your lines will break, or the dock clete will rip out of the dock. Needless to say, when this happens in rough water, very bad things will happen to your boat AND the dock.
