Hi! One of the most interesting paragliding videos i saw in a while! They have a good reverse launch technique... I see people with worse technique in EU.. Sport is young and not long ago we were flying with that equipment. Reminds me of two things... First anything can fly, question is just how? Second, passion for flying is unstoppable regardless the ending...The end is also part of this sport like it or not. If i would have nothing else to fly with, i would probably fly that shit too. Remember the time you took your first step into the air? Thanks for the video!

    The video is well made...
but this is sad and shocking...there are lives at risk.
One needs to educate these guys...both pilots and passengers. There have been fatalities in the region in the past.

As a pg pilot I feel very disturbed...and all the more when I see the video titled as INDIAN STYLE !!!!
Don't judge a huge country like India by what you see in a small village.

    Thanks for sharing this.
  • bearnie bechter 1 year ago
the video is titled 'indian style' without judging. it comes from the comment of one of the very good pilots there, who had flipflops on his feet: "you know, this is the indian style, because shoes are very expensive" ;)

and the video is made to open some western pilots their eyes, who sell wracked pg equipment on places like on the video.

the german titles at the end of the video tell the clear message: "please don't sell wracked paragliding material".
  • Manoj Roy 1 year ago
Well bearnie...thanks for that comment...unfortunately not everyone will understand the language and will take this as a general statement - The title.

We surely want to send this STRONG message to people out there trying to dump their wracked equipment to these not very educated people...

Guys think twice before you sell your equipment...if there is any fatality...then consider urself partner in the crime.

    PEACE :)

The vid says it all :-(

Manoj Roy is right this is obviously a small minority not India as a whole.

And I have to totally disagree with primoz.susa it is our duty as pilots to put a stop to this type of training. If people want to fly on unsafe equipment they can do but they should not be allowed to train or fly with passenger!

This sorry operation seems driven by money, not love of flight nor the thrill of giving others a taste.
    Greed - the universal motivator.
Sadly, here in America lawsuits lead the way in protecting innocents (paying customers). Lawsuits inevitably improve the standards, but at huge expense to the public. Paragliding instructor insurance in the US would multipy operation costs by 2x or 3x, reducing providers to those who can afford it, potentially killing growth of the sport. Fortunately, USHPA (our flight association) stepped to the front in 2007, requiring ALL member paragliders to SUBSIDIZE insurance of instructors, their students & tandem passengers. As a Tandem instructor my USHPA membership is us$270/yr, and regular USHPA members pay us$70/yr.

I think most of the equipment entered India in a much healthier state, but has been used abused to this degree.
Forcing people in paying high insurance fees is not the answer;it will make insurance companies richer and leave family of a deceased with some recompensation but will not magically bring a victim back to life.
This is just how life is in poor, remote areas. General life will probably be as dangerous as well in the area.

High insurance fees and law suits caused the hang gliding never to develop in its country of origin,to the level it did like for instance in Germany and France

“Nice video. You have clipped it together well. It takes me back to the late 80s, the birth of paragliding. Training has improved, but the attitudes of the pilots remain the same.

The need to fly over comes all common sense at times. It will get better. More rules and restrictions will be imposed.

The customers will pay more and the standards will improve.”
