The Senate Labor Committee killed two bills Thursday, May 1, 2014, that would have increased the minimum wage for certain public employees in the state. Senate Bill 646 by Sen. Karen Carter Peterson (D-New Orleans) would have gradually increased the minimum wage to $10.25 per hour by 2017 for employees with companies in government contracts. Senate Bill 46 by Sen. Yvonne Dorsey-Colomb (D-Baton Rouge) would have set the state's hourly minimum wage at $10 beginning Jan. 1, 2015. Both proposals failed to pass on a 3-1 vote. In this video, Will Green, the director of LABI's Employee Relations Council testified against Senate Bill 646.
