When violence and oppression no longer are accepted as forcible means, propaganda and commercials are appointed a much more important role. With indistinct, repeated rhethorics, always pointing towards the promised land, the illusion of persons in power acting for the best of the population is maintained. This goes both for highly civilized western countries as well as for less respected leaders of all sorts of communities.
Nicely packaged changes are introduced to undermine the structures of power, in favour of them who already have power and money. The politicians ought to carry the will of the people into effect, the media supervises and informs the masses, economic growth should improve the living standard, and the police and the military are purposed to enforce these benefits. With the support of the population it is easy to bring about changes that serve no other intentions than your own. Still persons in powerful positions can act in their own interests without being held responsible.
