Its taken me a while but I've added another section to this slowly evolving short film. The film is a series of vignettes that explores the world of insects, arthropods, and other invertebrates. It is entirely CG based on both fantasy but also on research and my growing obsession with entomology. The first study depicts a fictional insect on an alien world searching for his breakfast. The second study shows a hypothetical species of Sphecomyrma - the common ancestor of modern wasps and ants, looking for a place to start a nest on a cactus in the late Cretaceous period. Models are made and painted entirely in Pixologic's ZBrush, animation was created in Maya, rendered in V-Ray and composited in Nuke. The film is inspired by the writings and research of E O Wilson. I can't wait to add more, with better equipment and more research I hope to continue to build on this. The soundtrack was created by my brother Neal Keller (AKA Secular Mechanism) especially for this project.
