Who's the man behind the sound you hear, every time you startup your Mac? One More Thing (onemorething.nl) went down to San Jose to track him down: Jim Reekes. He worked for Apple for over 12 years, during which he left his mark on everything sound at Apple.

I read about the "sosumi" story before, it' nice hearing it from the author himself, though.

If you look at the Apple's website source code, the element containing their copyright notice it's actually called "sosumi" :)

Sculptors and painters, for instance, leave a trail of physical art behind them that lasts for a very long time and is appreciated by others. Programmer's, however, leave a trail of beautiful works which eventually get deleted, abandoned and forgotten. Most of Jim's software art is now lost, but he's so very fortunate to have also created something physical enough - the Mac startup sound - that it will never be deleted or forgotten, and has been immortalized in film.

nice when he talked about the "applaudience" and got a little choked up. So "earconic" and "applaudience" are two words I'm going to use from now on

What a great story! I honestly didn't think this would be remotely interesting what I first clicked it but boy was I wrong.

Okay, I was suspecting it the whole, but then I saw the wobble effect when they moved the camera towards the end. And I can spot that awesome DOF and wobble effect anywhere.

Was this done on a 5D Mark II?

Wonderful video, worth watching on many levels. His ending revelation is stunning, about the appointment he's going to!

I really want to know who made the empty trash sound. It is incredibly satisfying.
