13 Christmas Trees
This is the first half of my christmas tree series- In January I noticed the huge number of trees that were littering the streets around Finsbury Park and Archway in London. The pieces are about creating a greater public involvement with waste, which is documented through the films I created around them. Suspending them from living trees in public spaces was both a method of reinstating them in the mind of the passer by as something artificial but also beautiful in a slightly sinister way.
One element that made Forest Hang interesting and hard to film was the snow- when the trees were suspended, they simply looked 'further away' from some angles, as they could visually join the snow at any point. Added to that, we shot it in very low light, which added an amount of visual noise of its own. This lead me to the next piece- Tree Lynch.
