For this project, a motor was setup to be controlled via the arduino. Because the motor runs on a higher voltage than the arduino, it is necessary to use a transistor or a relay switch on the current flow for the motor. In this case, a darlington transistor was switched by the arduino to control a fan motor. A toggle button was configured to control the master on/off state for the system. When in the on state, the system accepts temperature inputs from the serial terminal, to emulate readings that a thermostat might make. When the input temperature is above 77F, the fan is turned on. When it drops below this threshold, the fan turns off.
