Is it possible to share who you are in ten minutes or less? It seems probable, so I thought I would give it a shot, and you can be the judge if it was you expected or not. Take a look at it, as I am curious what you each see in it. To learn about each person requires each person taking the time to share even a little bit about each individual. In a multi cultural society it is necessary to experience it and to keep the mind open.

    Hi there.
Just watched your video from down here in Australia :)
Yes, I too think the internet is a wonderful thing.
A place where great creativity can flourish, and the bringing together of people from all walks of life, all cultures, religions nationalities etc, is a GOOD thing.
BUT... Personally I think, like with everything else "good" mankind creates there is the potential for it to be manipulated and abused by those who ALWAYS choose to do so.
A place that the entire world can have access too without ANY censorship whatsoever - because it CANNOT be done, can be a dangerous place.
The internet is a giant pandora's box accessable to ALL.
I worry what this will bring....particularly to our children
    - the young impressionable minds... the minds of our future!
    Those who are NOT supervised.
The TV quickly became "societies babysitter"
Now it is the internet in many cases....sadly so.
I think technology has raced ahead and changed our lives so VERY quickly in the past decade or so.
We're still trying to adjust to it.
A balance is needed between screens and REAL life and I think some of us are struggling to keep that balance.
Anyway...just some random thoughts inspired by listening to your story.
    :)

Thank you so much for your comment, It is wonderful to see a person taking an active role, instead of a passive one.

The saying goes, there are two sides to every coin, certainly there are pros and cons, but to conditionally censor, to offer that level control to anyone besides the people, can become it's own pandora's box. To give anyone that right seems to be against what is freedom of speech.
It is true, that with television a cycle was started, and now that same cycle continues with the widespread usage of the internet. Certainly to be cautious is a prerequisite, consider though, that such responsibility should be with a child who was taught early on, from his parents, or parent if that is the case, is less likely to venture to an area that is clearly not for children.

So really, it is the old adage with great power comes great responsibilities, the awareness of that factor.

A child can be a product of their environment, so it is in that environment that such clarity should be established.

Technology is moving in leaps and bounds while we skip along merrily, the wonder of being human is the ability to adapt. Even with great change, in time we often expect it to grow beyond us.

Most definitely, balance should be a constant, but again that is in the environment, so it is with you or with me, to be active in our own lifes and to offer that same motivation in the children to be. For that matter the children now.

Riding a bike is a nice counter balance, it is that awareness or lack of that when improved can also perform.

Activity should be a constant, to use timers or to specify time periods, to make it fun, there are many ways to help a child understand that there is more to the world then what is on a screen. To go outside and play, ride a bike, run around something that is separate from computer time is in order.

Well it is coming on about 5a here so I should probably sleep, I would like to hear more from you in the future.

    Hi again.
Yes, we too try to maintain a balance. Plenty of camping trips and hikes in the bush and restricted "screen" time at home. :)
What concerns me are those who DON'T have the same kind of balance or guidance/supervision.
After all, they are the children MY children are learning about the world with in the playground.
And with the availability of internet access on mobile phones....at school....well...?
Children are naturally curious, even those with parents who have tried to teach responsibility and good morals etc...
I think in todays society they don't stay "children" for long and that's a great shame.
I wonder how inevitably all of this will all effect future generations?
There will be so much positive change I am sure of it but equally as sure that we just have no idea, yet, what the negative outcomes will be as this is all so very comparitively "new".

The thing with freedom of speech...and the power of the "people", well when it comes to the internet, you and I and everyone else are completely power-LESS.
Nobody can moderate the internet and this makes it a completely open library for any and all information to be exchanged.
Is this a good thing? I'm not sure.
Collectively good people do positive things.
    The same goes for negativity.
Anyway...all worth pondering as we continue on this journey that technology takes us on.

Good morning and bravo, a wonderful response. It does hold true that the view may not be as commonly held. In an ideal world every parent would take responsibility and teach. We do not live in an ideal world, which is probably a good thing. So certainly the subject of censorship comes with many facets, when you consider that "we" collectively of the new media, can make a difference, youtube is a wonderful medium to educate, just as vimeo and the many others, so then it becomes "our" responsibilitie, to insure the content shared is of an "educational, entertaining" sort. I have found many good examples, in my own journey of content that has that value. Of course it is not possible to say that is the only content that can be shared, when an individual, establishes popularity, whether it be via vimeo or along the many vehicles available, the responsibility is with "us" to insure the entertaining educational value of each that is produced. Recently, there has come an advent of sites that are working the demographic, of the children, in offering up good content with it's own individual filtering.

Really, then what becomes popular in these new mediums, lies with the artist or the producer. There will of course be the good and the bad and the downright ugly, that cannot be stopped, the hope would be at the very least that less children would find the bad and downright ugly, instead find the good, with education, with reading though a child becomes who they are at the bare minimum to offer guidance as to the differences of the screen and reality is with the parents again in an ideal world. Children learn by example, by what is fed to them by whatever medium. Common sense is not to often lost, as it is a part of us from the early years in life. In that sense, there is the hope that the common sense will win out.

Certainly only time will tell, what effect such a wondrous diversity of information, results in. As you do your part and I do mine in this new medium, let us hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

    Take Care
