I remember having seen this at the Smithsonian in 3D IMAX last summer.

  • Fantastic video! It's worth watching it!
I will show it to my students.

Excellent! Let's hope it helps to wake up the right people, i.e. those folk who can push through legislation or make changes that will help us reduce our CO2 emissions!

I have hope also. No choice exists anymore and no excuses are acceptable. We must fix what we broke!
    Aggressively if needs be......
If Copenhagen told us one thing, it's that our leaders see their polls are more important then the environment. What fools they are to think they are in charge!
Lets not wait for others to sort this out.
You have all of my support and any help that you might need
    Best

  • Not trying to sound nit-picking, the background music were, at some moment, more disturbing than helping. (I found myself pausing the video whenever a song came up, it's a bit too loud so I thought it came from somewhere else.)

    Fantastic Video BTW.

Thanks for the nit pick! Turns out I used a bad stereo track that was improperly mixed down from 5.1 surround sound. We are fixing this. Good ears!

I loved the content, very rich info.

Only humans are destroying this wonderful planet, and only they can solve the problem.

Cinematography, visual effects, coloring, content, music and the video editing were all perfect, but there were some parts where the music was louder than the voice.

    Despite that, amazing job, thanks.

Cooll!! so perfect. cinematography, special effect. It has a very beautiful picture, amazing moments... How long does it take to finish this project?

And the most important thing is the message is delivered so clearly...

This is the kind of film that inspired me to want to make films to begin with. This is the media's forgotten job: to get the message across to all parties and to get something done. Usually films like this preach to its choir; the only people that watch them are the people that already agree with them, and the people that need to hear the message turn a blind eye and a deaf ear. But what you have done that is so masterful is you have found a way to touch the greens and the greedy. The greens (such as myself) walk away from this saying "we need to save our oceans" and the greedy walk away saying "we'll benefit from saving the oceans". This is what the media is supposed to do; unite, rather than divide.

My dad is a teacher, and he watched this and said "every department can use this" (obviously science, but also the persuasive elements for the language arts and the sociology for the social studies). I went to the website and the video is blocked for the schools. Is there a way that my dad can download this video for educational use?

Thank you for creating this and showing that not only can the media be a powerful agent in spreading hope and getting things accomplished, but also the message that there is hope and we need to get things done now.

Great film. I'd like to get more specific about the sub species of the human species.
The largest single carbon polluter by far is the US dept. of "defense" (should be renamed to dept. of war). they are the BIGGEST purchaser of oil in the world and worse still is they produce nothing valuable to any living creature on this earth.
But, instead of being the first target for reducing global warming, they are excluded from any agreements. Add all the other war machines and we have the elephant in room. So, I suggest our first step should be to GET RID OF THE MILITARY. Then our little green machines and prudence will solve the rest.

Very Nice! Nice pictures, relaxing music, Sigourney Weaver...Truth is those with power and money don't give a fuck about natural balance and won't do a thing to save it unless it is good business. Other thing is we are just a spark on this planet and once Earth get rid of us humans parasites, all will come back to natural state. In mean time switch off computer you are watching this movie, don't use another plastic bag, and don't go for shopping in your 4x4 and try to save this planet.

To be honest We won't change what we are doing. We are too content with our way of living. I know this sound very apathetic. I am definitely not. We need leadership that makes the difficult decisions. This is a global problem. No matter how much me as an individual changes my way of living, unless a government enforces environmental conscious policies that will hurt us and risk the wrath of the populace we are just watching a train wreck in slow motion.
(I do personally do my best; Cycle, energy save and direct people to great videos like this) but......

Very informative. I'm liking Weaver as a narrator. She did a great job on the Planet Earth series, though I watched a re-run with Mike Rowe narrating. Anyways, this is a global problem, that we as consumers are eaqually responsible to maintain, sustain life on Earth and reverse damages done by man. Like Ridley said in this video, we need to prevent our ocean's creatures from turning into Xenomorphs. Go green baby!

It was very refreshing to discover this video. THANK YOU to the creators. Please don't be disheartened by my list of criticisms below. I post them because I consider them to be requirements in refining the message that must be provided to ordinary people. Here goes:
    1) pH is what? Provide the simple answer. Don't avoid it. If people don't know what it is they will NOT get a handle on this problem.
    2) Point out the Carbonic Acid equilibrium with CO2. Same problem as above. CO2 is NOT directly the problem. Carbonic acid IS the problem, caused by CO2 concentration.
    3) Discuss Neutralization/alkalinization chemicals. Limestone. Carbonates. Why they dissolve in water to neutralize pH.
    4) Directly point out and illustrate that we have ALREADY destroyed vast coral fields. The catastrophe is ALREADY HERE. We've seen the symptoms for over 20 years.
    5) Stop talking on an entirely abstract level for the purpose of 'dumbing it down' for our dumbed down culture. Provide information for those capable of understanding it in spite of the 'dumbed down' perception of the whole.
    6) Over-population was entirely ignored in the video, and yet it is the #1 CAUSE of nearly ALL our current problems. Why is this topic almost always avoided?Politics?! Fear of retribution? Explain in the film if necessary!
    7) We must change the human concept of 'home'. The entire planet is our home. Earth is our ONLY home. Don't excrete where you eat, breathe, live...
    8) It is time to discuss human behavior in terms of ability to CHANGE. Predict resistant behavior, comprehend it, learn to directly dialog to those people resistant to specific changes, help them find alternative thought and behavior processes they can comprehend on a basic survival level, since survival of us, as well as Earth, IS the subject.
    9) Using monorails in this or any environmental video is ridiculous and triggers a response of distrust. It is THE 'Gee Whiz' cliché representing fraudulent manipulation of people's perceptions. Monorail fantasies makes anyone insightful CRINGE with annoyance.
    10) Talk directly to what WILL be details of the 'Green Industrial Revolution'. Escape the abstract.
    11) Discuss the encompassing concept of SUSTAINABILITY versus the extinction of humans and potentially all life on Earth.

I hope these notes are helpful for those making future documents of this problem.

awesome, i am sending this to my college age sons to keep them on top of the ocean crisis. we need to find a sustainable compromise for fishermen (people) and the demand for fish. i am a vegetarian....but believe there are livelihoods that need to be considered, and also changed to provide sustainability.

Can't believe I've only just got around to seeing this... Great film Tristan... Very well done! I will pass it on...

  • I found the film to be lacking in solid evidence with far too many generalisations, ie. might be, could be, in the future, and so on. I heard no specific figures presented for the supposed acidifaction of the ocean since the industrial revolution, only terms such as "more than 30%". Far too many "doom & gloom" cliches. For me, it was like a soft version of Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" which is now regarded by many as a complete load of rubbish. I don't buy into the CO2 theory of the so-called "Climate Change". I see too many greedy scientists out there, ready to line their pockets from this agenda. On the other hand I'm 100% behind getting rid of oil based transport etc. The oil companies are screwing us all. But I'm not going to jump out of the "getting screwed by big oil" fire, and jump into the "save the planet by paying Emission Trading Scheme Taxes" fire. I want to see practical steps towards ridding our dependence on oil. The Governments are offering nothing.
Also, I found the entire focus on CO2 as being the "bad boy" as unrealistic. What about all the waste and toxic crap that is poured into the oceans? Not even a mention. What about the recent massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico along with millions of gallons of highly toxit Corexit being dumped onto it to try and hide the oil? Not a mention. The ocean has been used for decades as a back door dump for all sorts of products both for industry and for the military. Not a mention. What about all the Atomic bombs exploded in or on the ocean? What effect did that have?
On the positive side, good footage, nice editing, good music & graphics and well presented (and sometimes famous) speakers.
