62. Songs for the Cure: Alec & Eileen
Hi All,

Last week, we did a l'il video to help promote a really terrific cause. The indie music cancer drive is the brain child of Josh Whelchel, an indie videogame music composer. Basically, its a CD fundraiser featuring a super diverse collection of artists. All money raised goes to the American Cancer Society.

Two of those artists were our friends Alec and his sister Eileen Holowka. Alec is an independent videogame developer whom we met as part of our New Media Manitoba Showcase. He's a guy who seems to be a talent at pretty much everything. This was the first time he and his sis (also super talented) collaborated on a song.

The shoot was fun, and it was great to watch the two work and record.

Below is a snippet of their recording session.

Do check out the CD (and/or digital download), it's a great deal (you get a TON of music) for a great cause

  • Nicely done! What did u use to light it? Lite Panels LEDs?

Thanks Mike! The lighting was a super simple setup, just one softbox in the corner of the room ( high up, on Alec's left, slightly behind). And also one little LED light that we moved around for a little kick or fill here and there.

Thanks so much for the kind words Luc! Yeah it was a fun l'il shoot.

I was talking to Stephen the other day - we all need to meet up and talk cameras/gear/etc. someday soon. Once I get back in town, I'll give you guys a shout!

Yeah, for sure! No date set just yet. But once back in town, let's all get together and talk some shop!

    Hey Josh,

No problem at all. Lisanne and I were totally happy to do it!

It's a really fantastic fundraiser/project you guys are doing. Glad to hear that the video is helping with the effort.

    Good luck!

    Awesome as usual!

    techie question:

Is that a frame drop out or a camera flash around 1:17?
  •

    Thanks Ian!

Yep, 1:17 is a camera flash. Because of the slow sensor read/refresh rate, an instant flash shows up in only a portion of the frame. Unfortunately HDSLR side effect.
