looks great! what shutter speed do you try to stay around when shooting normal speed? this is definitely some of the smoothest biking footage ive seen from the 7d.
  • Lush Cinema plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Scott-

    I stick to 1/80 or 1/100 shutter for 24p. About 1/160 or 1/200th for 60p.

that's pretty amazing. I just bought this camera and interested in doing bike vids as well. What software are you using to do your edits.
  • Lush Cinema plus 2 years ago
    Thanks, Final Cut Studio 3.

cool, that's what I thought. You're doing pretty nice work with a modest lens collection. I just dropped equivalent to a DH frame on a camera and lens, I don't know what's more fun -- riding or filming/shooting. I love to ride but I'm starting to like being behind the camera too.
  • Lush Cinema plus 2 years ago
Exactly, it's tough to find a good balance. I'm 80% video 20% photo and lenses don't matter so much for video because the resolution is so little compared to the 18mp of pictures.

Anyway, I'm workin on upgrading my ride this summer AFTER I get a Canon T2i. ;)

Steve, love your work!! Did you do your grading in Magic Bullet or Color?
  • Lush Cinema plus 1 year ago
Thanks Mike, I just use FCP7's three way color correction. Sometimes I'll load a project up in Color to do a nice vignette or some really exact CC.
  • Mike Zorger plus 1 year ago
Yeah the 3 way color correction is EASY and FAST!!

Sweet vid, and I'm sure these dudes could destroy me on the trial, but why the full armor/DH helmets and 8 inch travel bikes to ride trails that look like you could take a road bike down?
  • Lush Cinema plus 1 year ago
Thanks alki. You're about the 50th person to ask. It was early february in northern idaho and the snow had just begun to melt on the lower elevation cross country trails, so we worked with what we had. And, since they are DH racers, they put all their money into their DH bikes... because they ride DH; thus leading to riding their only bike on these trails.

Saw this vid on mpora.com and was blown away. A simple track, but the filming angles, music and the riders made it look so good. The great thing about watching videos likes these, is that they give others an opportunity to try and incorporate some of the styles, which is great.

Good work Steve, can't wait to see the next videos.

How big of a hassle was it to be trasporting all of the equipment from shot to shot??? Cause it looks like you guys are at the right place at the right time...How do you do it????
    Amazing work!!!
