Tash and Wayne Shields run an organic farm in Baxter on the Mornington Peninsula, just 500 metres from Melbourne's metropolitan boundary. Most of their produce is sold at their farm gate, or through farmers' markets.
Agriculture on the Mornington Peninsula contributes over $800 million to the Victorian economy, is responsible for over 30% of Victoria's lettuce production, and grows a huge variety of produce year-round thanks to its mild coastal climate.
