You're visuals are always amazing! I see you use the letus system. Does that turn the image upside down in the viewfinder?

Love the last shot with the smooth pan and the time lapse. What pogram do you use for the timelapse?
  •
  • Great stuff ! it was refreshing to see shots of the characters within the city.

Also enjoyed the more ambient light in your shots, not usually typical with a nighttime-Tokyo-intersection-time lapse-vids.

love the mix between the slo-mo "people shots" and the action timelapses... as usual, really nice photography and very interesting subjects

Some real nice shots in here. I like the nod to WKW with the music. ;)

The resolution did not hold up at all at 1080p, though. I suspect the bitrate is too low or some other such problem.

Love your work man. How did you all of a sudden pop up in Japan?

How do you carry your camera in the plane? You put it in your hand luggage?
  • Philip Bloom 3 months ago
    both. Enormous excess baggage bill!

  • Jon Carpenter 3 months ago
Like it a lot. I like that you let the color go on the end of one shot so as to see what it looks like before and after Magic Bullet. What brought you to japan?
  • Philip Bloom 3 months ago
actually I didn't. The big billboard changed ad hence the light changed and don't ask why I am in Japan!!!
  • Jon Carpenter 3 months ago
Oh well that would explain that is wasn't a mistake. cool
I have a good friend in Japan I am trying to visit that is why I asked. I need to finance the expensive journey from the states

its a project that has gone rather pear shaped!

I like this one Phil. I think you have a gift for shooting people in moments. I love your landscape work as well, but I truly favor your work in this realm. Oh, I have a new video with a Letus adaptor on my page. The one with airplanes called Fort Laud. Hollywood International and I'd be honored if you checked it out, maybe put it on your channel!!!!!
Oh, and do you like the extreme or ultimate better?

the videos are terrific, did you describe what 35mm lens you were using? When the EX1 was announced it was said it would be an $8000 item; however a few months later I acquired in NYC for $6500. Also, any news on the release of the EX3 and the estimated street cost in the USA Could it be a $9k or $10k item? JimW

can you hack the frame rate on the ex1 like you can the hvx?
  • Philip Bloom 3 months ago
you don't need to. All frame rates are available, even up to 60fps in 25p mode.
  •
  • mike mckelvey 3 months ago
so it goes all the way from like 2fps to 60fps? that's awesome wish i could afford one and i wish my videos looked as nice as yours haha

I'm going to dial up that Nat King Cole track again right now! totally inspired, although I have to say it still comes a close second to my all time favourite big band ham up: Paul Anka's version of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'... check it...

Wow, very nice, makes me wish for a video camera of this caliber. I've been spoiled by the nice quality I get of my SLR and expect the same from video, this cam with the 35mm adapter looks like it delivers. The hdv cams I've been working with have all been interlaced and while a big step up from dv the compression has just been too heavy.

I found the closeups and portraits especially nice in this video.

Always beautiful stuff with natural light Phillip!

I shot in Tokyo in January earlier this year but had to go naked with my HVX as it was winter and director was worried about light loss with M2.

Does the Letus Ultimate have the same light loss as the extreme?

I am really thinking about selling my M2+MicroX after seeing all your LEX footage shot with natural light.
Im always fighting for light and getting tired of always having huge lighting setups when working with my M2+MicroX.

I was fortunate enough to setup and test a LEX last month and was immediately blown away by the small amount of light loss it had. The thing that turn me away was the noticible grain when stopped down to 5.6 and when using fast shutter. Then today after looking at your stuff again I realised that in the past 2 years I have only used fast shutter for 2 jobs and Im pretty much always shooting full open with my M2. Duh!

I think im going to order an LEX by the end of the week. :)

    Cheers.

  • Philip Bloom 2 months ago
Hi Adam, yes it is the same as the Ultimate. Just half a stop. Same reason I gave up my M2 for my Brevis. Could not stand the M2 light loss. Phil

I just would like to say that music is by Joseph Kosma and not Nat King Cole . The original title is "Les feuilles mortes" lyrics by Jacques Prevert (1945).

    Besides I like the video!

Hi Philip, i am a big fan, i love your work. I, myself am an aspiring filmaker and was wondering, what shutter speeds did you use for the time lapses?

Thank you for your art and keep it up.
