22. 1923 aka Heaven (by Max Hattler)
1923 aka Heaven + 1925 aka Hell won the Animate OPEN: Digitalis Audience Prize at animateprojects.org in 2011.

1923 aka Heaven is one of two animation loops directed by Max Hattler, inspired by the work of French outsider artist Augustin Lesage. 1923 is based on Lesage's painting 'A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World' from 1923.

The second loop, 1925 aka Hell, is based on Lesage's painting 'A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World' from 1925. It lives here: vimeo.com/maxhattler/1925

The films were created during 5 days in February 2010 with students at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark.

I really am just deeply impressed by all the work I've seen you do. It must take forever to get one of these shorts done, they are so intricate, yet there's a very "visual music" theme to them, like an elegant computer program as a sculpture. You really are gifted and I hope to see feature pieces of yours someday. I wish I knew how to do this!
    I shared this on twitter.
  • Blake Overgaard 1 year ago
Thanks for the kind words Adam :). It only took us 5 days to get this one done, but we were 6 students who worked very hard day and night on it. It was afterall a student project :)

The team who made this appreciates all the kind comments from all of you :)

Yeah, I am amazed of how much work we all got done in such a short amount of time... Thank you everybody for all the nice comments, it makes all the hard work worth the while! :)

I think this is one of my favorite animations of all time. You are a genius, Max. Are you going to do more like this? I think you could effectively hypnotize the world into doing whatever you like if you got this playing on big screens around the world =)

hi, nice and simple animation (by simple i mean geometrical forms, not anything else). also i find that the dramaturgy (what happens next) is well balanced and i like the choice of sound, which was applied to the animation. goed zo!
