Transcript of conversation between EIA and Dai Thanh’s Sales Mananger:
EIA: Who do you export your keruing and balau to?
DT: For keruing and balau, we export to… France and Germany also.
The Dai Thanh source further claims: “The EIA’s report that 20% of Dai Thanh Company’s timber is illegally imported yellow balau and keruing is completely untrue”.
EIA’s report does not state this. Instead it says that of total log imports by Dai Thanh, 10% is keruing and 10% is yellow balau, and points out that these logs are not certified, adding that the firm’s Sales Manager admitted to sourcing logs from Laos and Indonesia.
