great job! it's better than national geographic wild :)
  • Alex Yorke 1 year ago
    I agree with you there
  • james coyle plus 1 year ago
yes, it was had perhaps the best focus and resolution, color and artistic presentation that I have ever seen on the internet or TV for that matter, including National Geographic Wild or just about anything with wildlife. Very appealing and with just about the most extraordinary colors. If you had narration and a little longer it could have been on any of the major networks. Very nice work.
  • Paxson Woelber 1 year ago
I totally agree that it looked spectacular, but many of the shots looked as if they'd had some visible color correction or tinting applied to them, which is awesome artistically, but maybe conflicts with the more naturalistic philosophy of something like National Geographic.
  • Mirko Faienza plus 1 year ago
The only thing i did in color correction was adding a vignette and adding some whites or blacks where i wanted more contrast.

Mirko... just stunning! What country is this garden in ?
It has inspired me...I would now love to film my garden in Australia...as a comparison....things are a lot drier!
  •
  • Mirko Faienza plus 1 year ago
Well this is the small garden my father takes care of and it is located in front of his house. somewhere near Bologna-Italy. i am sure you can find a lot of beautiful and different life in your Australian Garden. if all these small animals are living in my father's garden, how many can you find in Australia??? I think a lot......so have fun!!!!

AWESOME! Stunning videography and the editing is spot on. Did you do a lot of post color grading? The colors are very rich and saturated. Beautiful piece!
  • Mirko Faienza plus 1 year ago
In grading we added the vignette and gave it a bit of contrast. We satured only few shots, mostly the dragonflyes at the end, we brought out the blue light on theyr wings. The vignette by itself was adding a nice contrast to the shot. Thanks a lot for your compliments

Amazing work and I hope you don't mind but I have a couple of observations. I wonder if it would have helped to have a wide shot of your Father's garden as I just wanted to see the location. In places for me, the music was too 'cutesey'. But hey, please understand these are really minor. This is truly beautifully shot, edited and graded. I loved it.
  • Mirko Faienza plus 1 year ago
You can find a couple of pics of the garden at this link
    web.mac.com/faio79/Faienza_Mirko/Video.html
  • Paxson Woelber 1 year ago
I'd agree with this comment and I almost said the same thing. The music is great and matches the shots well, but I couldn't help thinking that this could have been an opportunity to do something really interesting artistically. As it is, the music definitely works, but it's just playing it pretty safe.
  • Charles Son plus 1 year ago
This is a beautiful piece, and it's as artistic as it gets with a nature video. What more do you want exactly? You can't really delve into the psychology of an insect....
  • Nick Layton 1 year ago
I don't really want this to turn into one of those moronic debates that youtube seems to excel at, but can you explain how a change of music has anything whatsoever to do with insect psychology? I think it is amazing. I just don't like the music (in places). Does that clear it up for you?
  •
  • Mirko Faienza plus 1 year ago
    Thanks for your observations Nick.
My first intentions were to reveal the garden at the end of the film, to show how much life you can find in such a small ecosystem. At the end I felt the wide shots were kind of "out" the filming language I had used before, so i just put them apart and didn't care to show total views of the garden.
I spent a lot of time searching for musics, The only track I was sure about was the one were all the insect are flying away, the Tyler Bates track. I like the other tracks but probably, in matter of taste, they are discussable. Thank you very much for your feedbacks and compliments mate

This is one of the best wildlife films I have every seen!!!
Such respect for life and appreciation for Mother Nature you gain from this film. The colour, story and macro shots are superb. The insects amongst other things are the stars of the film. Mirko I'm just going to plug our new World, Travel & People HD

Amazing shots and editing. Very Fantasia-esque in places in terms of matching the action with the music. Some shots I felt didn't work as well as the rest, but you certainly have an eye for macro. Great work.

Wow, what a surprise! I had my headphones on and noticed the sounds going from my left to right. Especially the parts with those wasps. Got my skin crawling like they were really buzzing around me. I can tell you put tons of effort into the sound too (which I didn't see any comments on). Great work!
  • Mirko Faienza plus 1 year ago
Thank you, I guessed playing with pans would add a lot in showing the great traffic in the garden.
