For her first artshow, Vera Costa and Volcom, with the help of Desillusion magazine, choose the beautiful city of Cannes, in the south east of France Cannes which is usually a warm city of sun and VIPs was this time under 30cm of snow. It was a different but an amazing landscape, last time they saw that was 25 years ago!!! The exhibition took place in a cute and warm gallery named SUG’ART, located on “rue des Frères” owned by the enthusiastic Melanie who follows the old fashioned art gallery tradition.
Vera Costa, from Portugal, is part of Volcom’s surf family and she is also an art student in Lisbon. This year she is working hard pass her exams so that she can study her art next year in Paris.
With this exhibition, Vera focused on the interaction between shapes that surround her and human bodies. “It means the way forms act in the world, and also the way sometimes we deform it. But for me what is important is to understand that everything is made of forms.” Vera’s inspiration is from faces that she sees, and draws them from what she remembers.
The buzz created by Volcom and Desillusion was great with over 200 people showing up and appreciating Vera’s work. It was amazing to see the Cannes art scene meet up with young skaters, Volcom retailers, and some people who were there just because the party looked good!!!
Vera’s art is still on show and on sale for the next 2 months in SUG’ART gallery, 2 RUE DES FRERES, 06400 CANNES. Melanie will be happy to welcome you and share her passion and culture about art.
Congratulations and thanks to Coco, Zeb and Lucas from Desillusion Magazine, to Melanie from SUG’ART, to Volcom Art department, and Emilie.
