WOW! Very well done. I take it you've watched your share of Adam Curtis documentaries?

Truthfully, I haven't heard the name until now. I am interested though. Thanks for the recommendation!

Very similar montage + narrative style. Also the content - socioeconomic / geopolitical / media conspiracy. But yours is still a true original and definitely had me wide-eyed by the end of it. Check out Curtis' "The Power of Nightmares." See you at the fest!

Conspiracy theory ...subliminal messages ...the media controlling our minds? .....sublime! Or is this another subliminal message?
Thought provoking stuff.. agree with Calum.

Other finalists may have used amazing, detailed, time-consuming efforts with their visuals and graphics. Yours inspired the most ideas to stem from a single video, overall.

umm not sure about this, well made on a technical side. But i didn't like how you made your conclusions.
  •
  • Adam Cosco plus 10 months ago
I was merely trying to convey the connection between art reflecting society and art influencing society. I think that the line is very blurry. Sorry if my conclusions seem presumptuous.

It's like this: Casablanca came out in 1938 and basically has a protagonist who goes through the journey of being indifferent to the turmoil caused by world war II, but by the end of the picture, he has changed and has become aware of the problems facing others, and the importance of sticking your neck out for a just cause. In many ways, Rick's dilemma reflects America's at the time that film was made.

On one level, this is an entertaining picture about a love triangle. On another level it is a piece of propaganda designed to plant the seed in the viewers head, to make them ready to fight for their country. Was it designed that way, probably not. But it is fair for me interpret it that way.

In regards to 9/11 - I think that no one will ever know what really happened, who knew what and when. My video very much plays upon the fear that we didn't know everything we were told, which is one possibility. But everything could merely be a coincidence. Some days I feel one way, other days I feel the other.

I know the video comes across as very authoritarian, but it was made at a time when I was going through some very bad things in my own life. At a personal level: It is merely a window in the mind of someone with paranoid tendencies.

I'm pretty sure Germany invaded Poland in 1939 Adam so if Casablanca came out in 1938 does that mean it foretold of the future? Is that what your video is about. Telling/warning us about the future with movies? I like it!
