Pitzer College Independent Study Project Spring, 2014
This semester I spent 7 hours a week participating in dance classes at the Claremont Colleges. I danced in African Aesthetics at Pomona and Drummed for the Intro to West African Dance Class at Scripps. In addition, I researched rhythm and dance in a traditional West African context and the background of African Diasporic movement in the United States. The questions I asked student participants were aimed at drawing conclusions about the purpose and benefits of the rhythm and dance relationship in our contemporary environment at the Claremont Consortium.
