How 'bout the freelancer? How does he fit into your recognition? Unfortunately, I'm in an industry and a position where 'failure is not an option' is not only cliche, but mantra.

I'd hope that by virtue of becoming a personal linchpin, as you describe, I'll be able to rise above it all. But your utopian version of same, only works if I'm with a company long term.

What Jacqueline Novogratz has provided is a simple to understand definition. What Seth Godin has provided in his book Linchpin is the new secret weapon for business success. Thankful for the brain trust so willing to share both.

Now there's a vision of a company I have never worked for but would love to build. Wondering if Acumen has funds for people here who have been crippled with unemployment and need to have their dignity and talents restored. Thank you both for being linchpins to follow.

I disagree with the first few sentences - that you can tell a linchpin by how they carry themselves, but agree that willingness to balance risk and accountability is the key. The idea that fear is a necessary part of becoming a linchpin is unique.
