  • Picture America plus 2 years ago
    It is a Canon HV20.
    I also often use a Sony HC1
    So, I kept saying HV1
    I got it mixed up.
    Whoops.
It is not a Canon HV1
    It's a Canon HV20

thanks for testing! sounds like the sony sounds the best... which one did you like the best?
  • Picture America plus 2 years ago
    Hello Mark:

    I now prefer the SONY.
I also will use the RODE video mic.
RODE now has a small stereo mic as well.
    I don't own one.
I do plan to test it.

the sony mic sounds good on the camcorder, but it sucked on the ipod.
well, i don't think anyone is going to hook up their mic to an ipod so i guess it doesn't matter.

I may use the iPod as a voice recorder. It's simple. It works. I do not own a Flash Recorder now. So, the iPod will have to do. I can connect a RODE or a SONY to it for voice recording.

Did you test both the SENNHEISER MKE 300
SENNHEISER MKE 400 - mono? I could not tell which was which from your description. Which did you prefer?
    Thanks

The SENN MKE 300 is mono.
The SENN MKE 400 is stereo.

I just like the SONY ECM-MS9080C
    and the RODE best

Sennheiser was better close up and sony had too much hissing, but the sennheiser sounded like you were in a small room when used outside, and the sony sounded crystal clear :S
ah stuff it ill just go with the rode.

Thanks for the test! I like the Sony. Even though it's brighter than the other's I think it'll be easier to cut the high end a bit in post rather than boost the highs like you might have to do with the other mics.

How can you say you liked the Sony??? It's full of hiss!

The VideoMic and MKE400 are much better.

By the way could you test these 2 mics on top of the hv20?

Different strokes, I guess. The Rode sounds great as well, but it's also 2x the price.

I'm surprised at how poor most of these mics performed. The Sony seemed to sound the best. Have you tried to use the Sony in a setting with a live rock band?
