Embarked on the timelapse dolly quest a little under a year ago & we have found Nirvana. This is the first (v1) of three prototype dolly designs currently being explored for the openmoco.org project. We're working really hard to get this tech out on the streets for indy filmmakers. These tests were conducted with 'slim' the simple pearl script interface. GUI is well underway: openmoco.org/node/122 Enjoy & Keep an eye out...

BTW if your curious to see a source file, 1mm-ish per move macro accuracy test, and the prototype itself: openmoco.org/downloads/videos/omoco-dolly-teaser.mp4 - take it with a grain of salt though - it's only the first stab & changing for the better.
