See all Show me
I went on a road trip recently with my wife Linda. I accumulated a bunch of disparate footage that I didn't quite know what to do with. I decided to put together a montage representing the places we stayed and what we saw through the car window during our long journey home from New Mexico to Washington.

This is the longest piece I have uploaded so kick back and immerse yourself in this beautiful and epic world :)

  • WOW! Very nice work Steven, as aways. We're doing a road trip from Florida to New Mexico soon. I can't wait to get some footage as well. Won't come close to what you have here, but it's the memories that count.

Great montage Steven. Tell me what you think of the XHA1, I am just days from deciding on which camera to buy. Thanks!
  • Damn man! Your gettin' a XH?

    Steven,

Is it possible to get a picture of your "rig" xha1 with the Letus on it? About to purchase the Letus Extreme and want to get the right parts.
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
I don't have any pictures right now. None of this was shot with the Letus. All native lens.
  • Jimmy Swift 2 years ago
Sounds great, if you find a picture of your set up i would love to see it. I just want to make sure i buy the right set up for the Letus the first go around. Thanks Steven and keep up the great work.

Did you use your tripod for some of the shots, or the monopod?
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
Tripod for some shots, handheld for the rest or just found a resting place for the camera, like on a wall or rock, etc.

Hey Steven, were you using your Panalook2 Preset? How much, if any, color corraction was done in post? Some colors look much different than others
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
Takashi, I used Panalook2 but because of the drastic difference in some of the light between shots, the colors do look different. I had to close the iris down almost completely for some of the sunset shots which affected the color and softness, etc. I didn't really spend any time color correcting aside from a few tweaks here and there. This was just put together as a fun memory of the trip so I didn't plan on doing much post work.

Most enjoyable. I am thankful for the beautiful images without having to do a lot of driving . . . especially with gas rising toward $4.00 per gallon!

Lovely work Steven. A nice peaceful oasis in the middle of my busy day.

How did you export this video to achieve that aspect ratio?
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
Thanks Matt. I used Sorenson Squeeze to lop off the top and bottom letterbox to produce a true Cinemascope aspect size.
  • Kjewbee plus 2 years ago
I dont like that sorenson... To many artifacts in gradients... Just look at sky in sunset shots. You should use h.264 multipass for better result. You just need a lot more time to render it out ;)

    Thanks for the advice.

Can I ask to you the font you use in your video?
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
Aurora BDCN - If you are familiar with the show "Boston Legal", that's the font they use for their titles. I love it and find it very versatile.

Not too shabby for a thrown together montage. This turned out great! Excellent editing, especially the slow cross-over fades. The music was an excellent choice. Truly enjoyable to watch and very inspiring!

The west coast is dramatic, so the music is a good match. Here in the east coast all we have are trees and some hills.
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
There is drama to be found no matter where you are on earth. All that's required is how you see your world.

Amen Steven! Check out my latest, shot here on the East Coast, amidst....well, some trees and hills!

    Hi Steven,

I dig your videos a lot. I like what you bring out of your xh a1. I'm trying to buy a camcorder myself. I'v have 3 on my list

    xh a1 - good affordable
    Ex1 - Pricey but better

I wanna wait for scarlet which is still an year away but I need to get something in the meantime. Being an extensive user of xh a1, do you think I could get by with it? I'm mostly into indie music videos.

    Thanks

    - Hemant
  • Steven Dempsey 2 years ago
I have showcased the camera with the many films I have uploaded here. If you are still unsure about the camera, I'm not sure what to tell you. I like it and have gotten great results. I too am interested in the Scarlet but I don't expect to see it available until the end of next year at least.

    Hey Steven,

Thanks for the reply. I already purchased xh a1 last week and am uploading my first video. :)

I wanted to seek ur advise on DOF adaptor also. I see on ebay sm folks are sellin git for like 149 and 279 USD.

    cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170222160153&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

REsults on youtube look pretty good but these adaptors are homemade and not cosmtically so great looking. I was thinking of picking one instead of spending 1200 USd on letus in first go. What do you suggst?

You got great eyes to capture the beauty that surrounds us. Very nice piece. Love the closing shots of the sunset above the ocean horizon.

Steven, may I ask what highway and where exactly it is on the shots at 1:03 with the bikers and at 1:15? Thanks.
