A few canon hf100 and DIY dof adapter shots in a Cornish garden (UK). Using a canon ef 50mm f1.4 (with a sticky focus ring!) and a Worley 35mm adapter.

The light and colours here are BEAUTIFUL, and it feels very tranquil. I especially love the cherry blossom shots. Good work. :)

    Hello Sam,

Looks great. Can you elaborate what the setup is? A Canon EF 50mm F1.4 with a step-up ring from 37 to 50?

And did you change the colors or is that caused by the lens?

EDIT: actually see now below the answer...

    Thanks!
    Lucien

its a 37-55mm step up, to a opteka achromat, to the diy 35mm adapter, to the canon 50mm lens. I tweaked colour curves, and added some magic bullet.

Very nice shot, but sorry Sam i don't understand how you use a canon ef 50mm. How you put it in the HF100 ? Thanks

    you've got a great eye.

i can see the end result is fantastic, but is there anything about the worley adapter you don't like?

for example - do you feel it is limited to certain applications? or do you think you can really use it as an all around tool for most shots?

    thanks!

the adapter is great,i'm pleased with the results.
With the lens i'm using, the depth of field is pretty shallow so it doesn't apply itself that well to run n' gun style filming, as its hard to keep moving subjects in focus, especially as the image is inverted. with the canon ef auto/manual focus lens you can't change the aperture size , so its a bit limiting because you therefore can't change the depth of field.A fully manual canon fd or nikon lens could overcome this i think.

I'm looking for a good wide angle and telefoto lens for my HF10. Do you have any suggestions?
  • Sam Davies 2 months ago
I've got a Raynox 0.66x wide angle lens which i'm happy with. Its 52mm thread, using a step up adapter.

Sam, I had to let you know that after reading about and reviewing the HF100 for over two months when I finished this video I ordered the camera. I was blown away by the DOF ad went on mad net hunt for info. Thanks for showing this! I a have watched about 8 times so far. What edit software? I am on PC any advice? Thanks again for the share!

Thanks, hope you enjoy the camera as much as i have. I can recommend Sony Vegas Pro 8 - very versatile, and some good plugins available e.g. magic bullet.
