Retrospective Project Video Archive #35. Excerpt.
Hunger is a retrospective work that was highly collaborative. After they created "Cambodian Stories," Eiko and Koma continued to work with two young Cambodian artists, Charian and Peace. Together, they (re)created and performed "Cambodian Stories Revisited," and "Grain."
Co-commissioned by the Walker Art Center and the Joyce Theater, "Hunger" extends the collaboration with Charian and Peace; not only do the two artists dance, but they also paint a large canvas on stage. "Hunger" also incorporates material from earlier works, "Rust," and "Grain."
During this work, the live vocal and instrumental performance of Joko Sutrisno enriches a recording of Indonesian Gamelan music.
