Has a great cinematic feel. These cameras really shine in dreary light.!! Nice job- excellent footage.

Beautiful shots, the music fits the video perfectly.

What are you using to slow it down? It looks so smooth.
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
    Thanks!

I used cinema tools to conform it from 60 to 24fps.

Hey I saw you had some questions with Sony Vegas and I received this webinar link in my email a couple days ago.
It is basically 10 how-to techniques. It's about 45 min but there is some useful stuff in it. Just thought it could help you out.

Thanks. I need a new lens for my soon to be delivered 550D. NOt sure which one to buy. I googled a lot and basically lots of them say I should buy a 24-70mm canon or sigma. I have a a lenskit 15-55mm EFS at home which people say is not good and unsharp, so that is why I want a new lens. Maybe I should go for the 24-105mm canon or sigma? I am gonna use the 550 for video mostly.

how did u manage to not get it wet
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
Cut a hole in a plastic bag, stuck the lens through and held an umbrella over the camera. Not the most professional rig but it worked.

That was awesome. This camera looks amazing. those reverse shots looked really good too. This could rival 7D stuff.

Excellent choice of music, that's probably my favorite film soundtrack ever. Clint Mansell is a genius composer.
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
    Thanks Alex!

    Agreed on Clint Mansell.
  •

  • I'm probably the only person here who's excited because I have a 50mm f/1.8 lens on the way for my 7D. This is a really nice film, I can tell you didn't just start filming today!

With the T2ik, Now the whole world can be filmmakers. And we can turn Vimeo into internet TV. :-)
  • FOCUS35.COM plus 1 year ago
Good choice. the 50mm f/1.8 is the first lens everyone should buy. EXCELLENT low-light and it's only $89.00.

  • FOCUS35.COM plus 1 year ago
    is class c = class 6????
    Would you recommend this card?
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
I really haven't shot enough with it to "recommend" it but, so far so good.

    Very nice movie.

Please can you check if the camera output 1080i over hdmi while recording like the 7D or only 576p/480p like the 5D II?

    Thanks
    Daniel

  • Nice work, Drew. I like the cello, too. What's the work?
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
    Thank you Robert.

The music is "The Last Man" by Clint Mansell from the film The Fountain.

nice footage, did u use an external mic? or is the inbuild one. like the sound

did you use tripod only or any other stabilization equipment? :)

    cheers!
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
Just my $20 tripod. That's why there's only one tilt and no pans. Moves don't look good on those sticks.

GREAT VIDEO, NICE WORK WITH 550 D
    I LIKED IT
BUT WHY YOU DID THE CUT AT 0.55 I LIKED TO SEE THE FOOTS IN THE SCEN
    :(
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
Thanks MJM. I wanted the drops of water in sync with the music but liked the feet on the stairs at the end of the video and didn't want to use that shot twice.

    you did great Vid

do you have problems with 550 d ?
did you get the new plug in for FCp
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
No problems yet and no plug-ins for FCP needed. Just imported and edited.
  • Jordan Romberger 1 year ago
FCP 6 or 7? I'm worried that my copy of 6 won't import footage if I get this camera.
  • Nick Torres 1 year ago
It will, All you need is the EOS Plugin for Final Cut

Cool feel to this video. The shot of the polka dot boots on the step made me smile.

You could've said it was a 7d, and I probably would've believed it. Do you feel the same way?

Short of physical differences, I can't see any.
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
Thanks Iain! Yeah, I really don't see any differences aside from the physical.
  •
  • Steven Dent 1 year ago
    Your footage looks fantastic ungraded.

I can see why people increase the latitude, though, if they plan to grade it. The blacks are too dark otherwise.
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
    Agreed.

That is some gorgeous footage! I love the combination of a photographer's sense of composition and a cinematographer's eye for movement and framing. Slowing the 60fps down to 24 is pure genius.
  •
  • The more I watch this the more I appreciate the film-making done here. Even without the camera it is pretty genius, but shows off the camera and detail possible very well. Inspires me to make better films. This and Nino Leitners video hands down are the best 550D videos right now.

im in a huuuugggeee problem. do you think i should just buy the camera with the kit lens? or shouldi save my money, buy the body onlym then get the f1.8? please help me haha
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
If you're a new photographer, the kit lens can be a good tool while you learn. I don't think you'd only want to have a 50mm lens. It is nice and inexpensive so you can pick it up in the future.
  • Davon Corbett 1 year ago
thanks, but which one puts out the best picture quality?
  • Drew Painter plus 1 year ago
    50mm 1.8 is a much nicer lens.
