In 1978, Margaret Shokneth loaned to Don Ray and Bill Thomas photographs she had taken following the 1928 collapse of the St. Francis Dam north of Los Angeles. It was California's second worst disaster. When Don Ray attempted to return the photographs, Mrs. Shokneth was no longer at the address she had given. Some 36 years later, on April 26, 2014, Don Ray and Bill Thomas returned the photos to her great-grandson, Ryan Quinn, on the steps of the home he and Mrs. Shokneth had lived. John Alarid recorded the hand-off and Ryan's subsequent visit to the site of the disaster. The St. Francis Dam story is now a project of The Endangered History Project, Inc., a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) educational and literary non-profit organization. endangeredhistory.org, ehpboosters.wordpress.com. Don Ray's phone is (818) 237-3728. His email is donray@donray.com.
