thx, looks pretty cool for auto.
Have to pick 1 up, to good for that price tag :)
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
Totally agree. The price tag is killer. Well worth the money. I'll probably upgrade to a 5DMKII in the next six months and begin to rent the T2i locally.

what kind of DSLR shoulder rig do you have planned on buying? I am interested as I just ordered 550d
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
So far I've purchased 28mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4 and a 85mm f/1.8 lens. I also purchased a Zoom H4N and cinebags backpack. I have a Rode NTG-2 shotgun mic and a couple different Manfrotto tripods from my HVX-200 that I'll use as well.

The main thing I wish I had right now is some sort of rails system. I'm looking at the indiRAILSpro DSLRsm - indifocus.com/products_indirailsprodslr.htm
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
    Forgot to mention, I also purchase a 35mm f/1.4 that's on it's way.
  • Those are some sick lenses.
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
Absolutely sir. I think I'm even more excited about the lenses than the camera.

I love it. brutally authentic with the shaking
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
Thank you sir. I don't have any sort of rails system yet so I tried to use the shaking intentionally.

what lens did you use in most of your shots in the footage above?
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
I would say I used the 50mm f/1.4 the most. I tried to use all the lenses though to see the difference.

I love this. Very filmic. Any good website for ordering lenses?
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
Thanks! I would suggest either B&H or Adorama. They are both well respected and reasonably priced.

A simple extendable monopod fully retracted works wonders for stabilization. You end up becoming a human steadicam.
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
I agree. I want to be able to have that "handheld" look though without it being ridiculously shaky. Let me know if you want to try the camera out!

Mike, thanks for posting this, it's amazing work! I just got my T2i and was wondering if you manually focused or if you used the auto focus through live view while shooting?
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
I used manual focus. The problem with auto focus is it will skip back and forth until it finds the sweet spot, making that portion of the video unusable. After just a little time you get used to pulling focus and it becomes pretty easy.

Did you use a follow-focus ring?
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
I would like to but I don't have one yet. Looking at getting this guy indifocus.com/products_indifocuspro.htm

Would you say this would hold it's own as a person's only camera? I'm thinking about selling my hg10 and getting one of these.
Also, good song choice! MGMT all the way.

Nate - from a personal or professional perspective?

The espresso shot is sick. What lens did you use for that particular shot?
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
Thanks Matt! That would be the 50mm f/1.4.

Thanks Mike! I just bought the t2i two days ago with the kit lens. Hopefully I can get my hands on a faster lens within the next couple of months. I can see how it makes a big difference.
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
It definitely does. Hope you enjoy your camera sir!

MIKE JONES!! is that a rapper? I want to throw my hands up in the air and say MIKE JONES!!! that name is tight.. well sir my question is what did you use to edit..ill be getting this camera and am a noob who has yet to get software for editing. I am a PC any suggestions besides going MAC. Thanks MIKE JONES!(hands in the air!) be well.
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
I edit in Final Cut Pro. On the PC side I would suggest going with Adobe Premiere. If you're on a budget there's a Adobe Premiere Elements, I think you can grab that for under $100. Avoid all the other cheap PC editing programs, they'll just give you grief.

Would you say there is a big difference between the f/1.8 and a f/1.4...cause the f/1.4 costs three times more and some complain the image gets too soft at f/1.4?
Also, do you have the Canon 1.4 or another brand?
  • Mike Jones 1 year ago
There's definitely a difference between the f/1.4 and the f/1.8 but you would still be plenty happy with the f/1.8. If you can afford the f/1.4 go for it, if not the f/1.8 will still serve you well.

In regards to focus - the f/1.4 should not be any less sharp than the f/1.8. What is probably happening is people are having issues getting/keeping focus with how shallow that lens is.

In regards to brand - there are some other good brand of lenses out there but for your go to 50mm f/1.4 of f/1.8 go with Canon. It's good to have that one totally reliably excellent lens.
