I first became interested in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" when I saw the original preview to the film. Composed of one small scene, the moment between the characters was timeless and yet the preview became all the more compelling to me because of its quiet and mundane nature.
My studio work generally involves themes of repetition, gestures of memorialization and futility. Wanting to compose a 360 degree gesture, I video-ed the preview to "Alice...", edited it into stills, drew each still, documented each still and edited them back into a video. In other words, video-->drawing-->video.
