1. elevator7 - a loopab…

A walk through elevators. It's my first video with my first own videocamera. Of course I wanted to try out as much as possible at once. So I went out and tried to get familiar with my new cam and a steadycam - at home I edited and composed the shots I took. It's an experiment and I will try to make it better in the next videoprojects.

Is the camera too light for the steady cam?.. The cam seems to pendulum back and fourth.

well, I do not exactly know, but I've tested now with some more balance weight and it seems to work much better. I think in this first project I used a bit too less of balance weight. As you can see the cameramovement is very easy and slow and there isn't much acceleration or deceleration. Although the cam is swinging. That tells me to increase balance weight. Am I right?

Ya.. you need to play with the weight on the bottom and top to find some balance with it. When you manually tip it 90 degrees to the side, then it should take almost a second to tip back up straight (vs quickly dropping). A quick drop will mean its bottom heavy and will create a pendulum swing while in use.

    Steadycam from ABC Products. tinyurl.com/6xsa48
But This steadycam isn't for lightweight cams like the hf100. I didn't know that when shot the video.

I've used a similar device (glidecam) with a DV camera weighing 1kg (incl. batteries, wide angle). To balance for vertical torque I had to add weights above the pivot (so adding weight to the camera) and then compensate with weights below the pivot.

A wide angle lens will add more weight.
