There are so many ways to tell a story...

And so much a wedding symbolizes. So many questions it tends to raise: What is love? What is faith? It was our hope to explore these themes in a far more dramatically engaging way than we felt possible in a traditional documentary... Perhaps there is more within this story then meets the eye.

In the fall of 2009, Melissa & Samir embarked on an incredible journey to Udaipur, India, to fulfill a lifelong dream of having their wedding in the country of their ancestry. This transcendent place, affectionately called the "CITY OF LAKES," located in the breathtaking region of Rajasthan, would be the setting for their extravagant, three-day marriage celebration, and the backdrop of our unprecedented film production - shot entirely on-location. We believe this to be the first ever live event/scripted concept production 'hybrid' film ever produced on this scale. It was shot entirely on DSLRs, the Canon 5D Mark2 and 7D.

We hope you enjoy the trailer for "CITY OF LAKES" and look forward to sharing the film with you soon.

Seriously Kevin, this is by far THE best footage I have seen come out of either the 5D2 or 7D ! I would love to see any behind-the-scenes footage, etc..

You have taken the "wedding video" to the extreme to say the least. Well well done.

What does a production like this involve ?, I'd imagine a crazy amount of planning.. Do you call "cut" ? So many questions..: )

Makes me want to get married just so I can hire your production company. Maui would be a nice addition to your portfolio !

k, gotta go watch it again...

    Love and Aloha, iamKP-
  • Pacific Pictures plus 1 year ago
Thanks iamKP, those are some kind words. There was certainly a challenge here combining a scripted production (I sure did call 'cut') and a live event with no retakes. And yes, I'd love to come to Maui! Aloha -K

I posted the vid on my redhead site/blog as well as cinema5d as I think every 5D2 user needs to see this.. Your skills are top notch, I can't wait to see what you in the narrative feature world.. Any plans or are you gonna keep dominating the niche you've deservedly created for yourself ?
  • Pacific Pictures plus 1 year ago
Thanks for the support, KP! Wouldn't mind doing a narrative feature. These are fun too. Lots of freedom, but of course a smaller scale.
  • iamkalaniprince plus 1 year ago
Fond of Hawaii ? I have a super secret project called "Jungle Boys" that you may or may not be interested in.. It's a Stand by Me meets Y' Tu Mama Tambien narrative feature..
    Anyways, more later... : )

PS: do you guys rent jibs and dollies locally or crate the stuff around the world ?

  • Great stuff

I think what lot of people overlooked were performances. I do think the older guy who the kid seek advice from is a TV actor in India but great direction on kids by Kevin. Wonderfull stuff
  • Ian-T 1 year ago
I know I recognize his face from somewhere.
  • Pacific Pictures plus 1 year ago
Rushad Rana is a well established TV and film actor in India. He most recently co-starred with Akshay Kumar in a movie called "8x10" - a super talent and all-around great guy.
  • Ah of course. I remember him now. He was really good in that despite the movie having strange ending.

So Kevin, how many bollywood movies do you see?
  • Pacific Pictures plus 1 year ago
Too many. Although they're more "new" Bollywood, Jodha Akbar, Dhoom 2 and Dostana are my favorites... & c'mon, guys, pretty much anything with Priyanka, right? ;) Hard for me to appreciate the old classics since I'm not fluent in the language.
  • Fair Enough. It's funny how you say Priyanka. Just finished a movie of her last night "Pyaar Impossible"...blah movie but you will enjoy it considering her wardrobe :)

I have grown up watching bollywood movies and I gotta give you a list of some of the best bollywood movies made throughout history with english subtitles. Some of these movies in terms of story telling, editing are at high par even to some hollywood movies. Too darn long to post it here

But honestly kevin, you have inspired me to do something grand (not to your level thoug) with few of my clients. I truly appreciate it. I will be lying if I didn't say I got goosebumps watching it everytime.
  • Pacific Pictures plus 1 year ago
I gotta see PI. Just finished Whats Your Raashi, it was ok, eyecandy, like most of them. Very cool, glad you've been inspired. I'd love to see what you've been able to accomplish.

  • John Lewis plus 1 year ago
wait, this is a wedding film? as in an actual wedding? combined with scripted acting?

wow. whoever come up with this concept was either a genius or completely insane.

whichever it was, it's certainly paid off. this looks and feels for all intents and purposes, just like a big budget hollywood film shot on 35mm cameras.

if not for the smooth recognisable texture of DSLR footage, I would not have been able to tell it was shot on these tiny digitals.

Congrats to all involved. truly inspiring.
  • Pacific Pictures plus 1 year ago
Yes, John. This film integrates the couples' live, real wedding into a scripted, produced concept film. Since there are cast actors, a script, on screen dialogue, etc, and the live event is so closely interwoven with the scripted story, we believe this to be a 'first-ever.' Not to mention the location, collaboration, and all-DSLR shoot. Thank you for the kind words!
