Jeff Miller speaks at the 2010 Madison County Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on the campus
of Mars Hill College.

Creating Jobs for Western North Carolina
As a small business owner I am very aware of the hurdles our businesses are facing today. I will fight to reduce corporate taxes, reduce capital gains, and provide tax relief for all our businesses and residents. We cannot tax our small businesses out of business.
Unemployment of up to 15% in some counties is simply unacceptable. As your Congressman I will work with our local and state officials to recruit good jobs and businesses to Western North Carolina. Someone has to take the lead on this and I look forward to helping put people back to work.

Stop Runaway government spending
One of the main reasons I am running for Congress is because if the reckless deficit spending continues in Washington, it will not be me but my son and his children that have to pay for it years from now. We have to approach our federal budget like I approach my business, which is we should not spend money that we do not have, period! People will have the confidence to start spending again when they see the federal government stop spending money we do not have.

Honor our Veterans and all those who serve our Country
I have spent the last three years of my life honoring the veterans of the Greatest Generation. They have taught me so much about honor and service to ones country. Everything good in our lives we have because of the sacrifices of our nations Veterans, and we must never forget that! I will be a tireless advocate for our veterans and all who serve our country.

Support access to affordable quality health care NOT government takeover of health care
Reforming our health care system is critical, BUT a government takeover of Health Care is NOT the answer. We must stop fraud immediately, support medical malpractice reform, create an environment for open competition among insurance providers, and allow citizens to control their own health care dollars so they can choose from a variety of health plans and providers. We must apply the free market principles our country to our health care system.

National Security
Im committed to a strong national defense and keeping our promises to our veterans. The world is a dangerous place and we must be vigilant against the threats of terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and expansionist powers. These actions must be taken, however, in accordance with the U.S. Constitution. I believe that our active presence in allied countries is key to our national security. I will oppose giving enemy combatants Constitutional rights they are not due. I want to be mindful of our individual rights when reviewing legislation such as the Patriot Act and FISA, but do see them as essential tools in the War on Terror.

I am Pro-Life. For my wife Tamara and I, this isnt just a political statement, but one that we have witnessed firsthand with the joys we experienced with the birth of our son Beck.

2nd Amendment
I believe in the Second Amendment to the Constitution: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. I have been a member of the NRA for many years.

Constituent Services
I will have second to none constituent services. As an elected representative of the people I believe in accessibility of all citizens to their Congressman. I look at every meeting as an opportunity to make or build on a relationship. How can I represent the 11th District if I and my staff are not out listening to you? Our family business was built on giving the best service to anyone that walks in our doors; we are beginning our 95th year in business so the formula is working. My office will be a place where the people of WNC know they can go to get help with any issues they may have. Our staff will be from the area and excited about working with each of you.
