somethings wrong with the playback ..weired interlacing and stuff .maybe you can upload again?
  • Jack Tew 1 year ago
    Hi Amin,
This is because i shot at 30p on the 5D before the 25p firmware update came out and this was a copy that i converted down to 25p! Which is why it looks abit odd... need to upload my 30p export!
Thanks for the comment! needed to be highlighted.
    cheers :)

Hey Jack. Really like this! Very clever and simple. The sound design was rather impressive for it's simplicity. Also... couldn't help but think of Mars Attacks when I heard the music. :P

  • Michael 1 year ago
I love your stuff...but I have to ask how you get your funding? I mean you have extensive locations, great actors and fairly pricey equipment
  • Jack Tew 1 year ago
    Hi michael,
I fund all my own films. Actors work on expencese so paying them to get to the shoot and keep them happy with food and drinks! And all the locations I have used are free as I am working on very little budget as I was a student when I made all these films
  • Jack Tew 1 year ago
It's all about trying to get stuff for free! It just takes abit longer to find stuff! Most of the kit was my own or friends or rented out through the university.
  • Dave Humphreys 1 year ago
As a student the best way of finding actors is to use casting websites such as Casting Call Pro and find those who are happy to work on expenses only, find the people who are looking to work for free in order to get something for their showreels in order to progress their careers, its a win-win situation, audition them of course, coz there will be a lot of crap people who apply, and i mean reallllly crap, but you soon find the really good ones.
Then, as Jack says, keep them happy, and it soon reaps rewards.

This is absolutely touching. I'm sure it's already been said, but I have to say I'm really inspired by your stuff. The cinematography, sound design, editing, and acting work so well. Simple and beautiful character piece.

Surely this essay would be more suited to for a private email, rather than spitefully raising issues you have regarding a "sexier title" on an unrelated production.

Unlike YouTube, Vimeo forums serve to share creative and constructive feedback for a global community of film makers, videographers and animators.

Naughty Carl turning his radio off!! Ohhh and hey! I didn't see no aliens in this vid??? .....or is the music just a preventetive precaution? if so, it works :)

Very well done. The story is simplistic and very engaging. You feel Carl's loneliness, and the mundane of the job. Great stuff, and in the end after she say's his name you cheer. Wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration.

This is great! I worked at a high school this summer as custodial help, and you really captured the mundane nature of the job. Loved the character of Carl. Very sweet and innocent, yet broken. You had me worried with the mannequin. I kept saying, "Don't do it, Carl!" Unfortunately, any of the guys I worked with that were interested in a teacher were much less respectful than he! Loved every moment of the film. Superb job!

As I watched this movie I found it amazing how the inner transformation of the protagonist ist shown, without letting him say anything about his feelings. This is, on one hand, the cautios but well defined acting, as well as the change in perspective, a light-job and depth of field that gives me the feeling as if you could look inside his mind. [At least, that's what I think ;-)]Loads of filmadaption lack the ability to recreate the evolution of the character from written language to a picture. This is a very well done monologue of a man that lost hope in transformation of his life and a good inspiration for anyone who does a filmadaptation including internal monologues [though I think this story isn't based on a novel?]

Damn! This is very very good! I enjoyed the short film a lot!
It's good to see people that are actually making an effort to tell good stories. Congrats man!

If you don't mind me asking, wich type of lenses did you use when shooting the close-ups? (the chocolate bar scene for example)?

    Congrats again! :D
  • Jack Tew 1 year ago
    Hi mate,

    Thanks for your comment!!

I used a 100mm 2.0 Canon lens for the close up's of the chocolate bar! also used a 200mm 2.8 Canon for the long shots and a 50mm 1.4 Canon for some as well!!

    Thanks again

i've to say. looks too much artificial, specialyl in what concerns the sound editing and the main character is way too clean despite the good performance.

also the lightning is forced to the white leds so much that helps in the idea of artificiality.

the argument is cool but in the overall the video could (and should) had a better edition.

    (sorry the bad english).
