I love grass.

I found this footage that I shot months and months ago before the camera deaths of '08. That plastic dinosaur is STILL in the backyard, I never picked it up.

Music: The Appleseed Cast
Footage that I coloured at the very end is from Charlie.

    You're a really quick grasshopper.
    Wonder Twin camcorders activate!
  • I got tired after hopping around and running really fast through those giant blades of grass and our tiny itty bitty camcorders.

    Where were you?
  • Jason A 3 months ago
    I was still frozen.

Be sure to pick up your dianasaurs before you mow the lawn.
  • Oh gosh the thought of that actually really scared me so I'm going out there to get it right now. who knows what kind of disasters could happen when that little guy jams up the lawn mower.
  • UPDATE:

I just went out there and I couldn't find it....great.

It was there yesterday when I was taking out the trash, but now it's gone....great...

At times its hard to tell whether the grass is real or fake, I love the feel and pace to the entire video.

    Two Thumbs Up!
  • yeah agreed. the parts that are uber sped up make it look really fake. :-) thanks os much golden touch farm :-)
  •
  • Christopher Galasso 2 months ago
Woah, I really like the texture of this. Did you retime it or something to give it that weird pixellated feel? Not the sped up part, obvi.
  • the footage that wasn't obviously sped up or slowed down is what the normal speed is that I shot it at. I shot with a shutter of 1/4000 which is probably how it got that feel. No post effects other than slight colour correction and slight vignetting. :-)

the pixellated feel is probably from the shutter being so itty bitty. my camera went up to 1/8000 but there wasn't enough light.

    Very cool, and very beautiful.
This makes me want to be a cat, romping through the grass.
  • ^_^ o_O MEOWWWWWW!!!

    hee hee

  •
  • I love these kinds of videos but how do you protect your lens from getting scratched up???
  • I used a pretty crappy small camera so I am okay about being careless with the lens. Also the panasonic gs320's lens is pretty far deep under the 16:9 hood thing so its harder to get to because the hood part blocks it...but of course there's bits of twigs and grass inside there now.

I know that when charlie does this he put a UV filter over his lens...that's probably the best bet for people who use the hv20 or hv30.
  • iamdamion 2 months ago
UV filters save the worlds from scratches!!! I even have a clear protection lens on my Z1U just cause...for safety sake only. :)

    p.s.- great video!!!!
  • Thanks damion. Oh man yeah if i had a z1u i'd put an army in front of it to protect its lens.

You do really interesting things. I like your films. May I ask what you edit with? Your edits are well done. R. :o)
  • hee hee thanks Roger. I edit on Final Cut Pro. Nothing fancy dancy I just make lots of cuts and mess with speeds. :-)

Your words are kind and appreciated.
  •
  • RogerB1 2 months ago
I believe it is your "nothing fancy" with lots of cuts that help to make your edits what I like to call "clean". Sometimes I try to do that also. I don't get the time to really do a good job but I appreciate it when I see it. :o)
  • ha you are wonderful thanks Roger.

cut at 1:25 and you've got me. The 'I love you' bit doesn't sell for me. gravy macro.
  • Thanks for the feedback Tim :-) I kind of haphazardly put this together a while ago and it was just for fun. Also that note is specifically directed towards someone which is why I left it in there, but agreed it does seem out of place. Thanks, take care!

the grass in your video is not that amazing! the shot just make me nervous , and take care of your cam!
  • haha...yeah the grass is pretty dead. I think i was more concerned with the way that patches of light hit it, rather than the grass itself. But (evidence of my other videos) I do shoot grass...a lot.

It's not a very expensive camera.....so it's easy to experiment with it and do random crap to it. I would never ever do this with my other cameras.

maybe that can explain the death of the camera :p
  • Hahaha no. I filmed this about 4 months or so ago and my camera died when I made this:

    vimeo.com/793130

THAT is what killed my cameras. haha

You are the most important grass-lover in the World!
  • Hee hee. I could lay on grass all day. It's so green and enchanting. (Well not the grass in this particular video, it's pretty dead and dry...haha)

You know what's funny. I've been shooting a lot of 16mm lately and whenever I am on film shoots that I DP for I always think, I wonder what Irina would do for this shot? Hee hee What have you been up to lately?
  • shatlarina 2 months ago
Karen, I am surprised you! :)
I spent on shootings the last one and a half months. Initially it was China, then Italy and Poland finally. All of it for three different movies. Frankly, I'm tired. But now I'm already in Moscow. I would be prepared to new shootings.
I see that you don't lose wasted time too.
  • Wow you are amazing to me. You are my hero. :-) I know that you are doing well because you are unbelievably talented! One day we shall work together!
  • shatlarina 2 months ago

I've been a stills photographer for ages. All the video I've seen before was TV-like and boring but I'm starting to find wonderful creative stuff like this on Vimeo. I love it - it has a whimsical joy about it.
  • Thanks so much John, that is very thoughtful of you to say. Agreed, there are incredible and amazing things on vimeo, far better than this silly little video. :-)

I loved this :) I think I wanna scoot around in the grass with my camera, it looks like so much fun. There should be a whole channel on Vimeo of these videos! I could watch them non-stop, I don't know what it is.
  • heehee you should! and upload it. Grass Scoots channel...hahaha...If I didn't already moderate fifty million channels I would make one. haha. I'll observe and if there at least 20 of these videos then I'll make a channel hahaa.

Psh I could watch your videos all day long.
