I-95 Early AM Time Lapse
Taken with a Nikon D300. Camera set to lowest resolution available, 2144 x 1424 using JPEG "normal" compression. Exposures are one per second for 1/2 second @ f5.6, ISO 800, 18mm, 601 images. Video created with QuickTime Pro V7, sized to 800x531 @ 30 fps. I'm a bit disappointed with quality of the JPEG stills. I may try JPEG "fine" or TIFF next time. A friend showed me Andrew Curits's Cinco de Mayo time lapse and I had to try it for myself. Andrew's stuff is amazing and far superior. You really should look at it. I am only a humble beginner. The blue light on the light pole at the right edge of frame in the last couple seconds is the always professional and courteous local PD checking on me.

Andrew Curtis 2 months agoCool man, does the D300 have a built in intervalometer? It's cool that you can do a .5 second exposure every second, my D80 can't shoot that fast. I would definately use jpg fine. Other than that I think you've got the basic technique down, it's not really all that hard, just playing around with the settings to suit your liking. -
Robert Beyer 2 months agoYes, the D300 does have the intervalometer built in. Maximum 999 exposures, and no more than 1 per second, but it will shoot more than 1 frame on every interval. I assumed from your stuff that the D80 did too. What are you using to trigger the camera? -
Andrew Curtis 2 months agoThe D80 doesn't have it built in, I use the pclix intervalometer (http://www.pclix.com) it does any interval you want. The D80 needs at least 7 tenths of a second between exposures to keep up, so I usually just stick with a 1 second gap. -

2 months ago so fluid... nice work. You should think about adding a little music to give it some emotion. -
Robert Beyer 2 months agoThanks. I know, you're absolutely right about the music. I did these as an experiment because I got inspired by Andrew's stuff. Music means I need to use editing software (FCP, Premiere, Vegas etc.) I just haven't gotten that far yet. I've been making them with QT Pro.
