TOY 'As We Turn'
Directed by Julian Hand 2014
Studio lighting directed by Antonio Curcetti & Alexandra Stone
Explaining some of the band’s reference points for the video, Panda says:
“The points of reference for the As We Turn video came mostly from early animations we’d seen. Mary Ellen Bute’s first colour film, Synchromy No.4 ‘Escape’ from 1938 was an influence as well as some John Whitney footage. Both use unusual early techniques but achieve something otherworldly and I think that’s what we wanted to try and do. Julian Hand brought in the idea of using chromotropes which are 19th century kaleidoscopic slide which you wind up so they turn. Henri Georges-Clouzot’s unfinished film ‘L’enfer’ was another reference. He uses different filters and lighting as well as strange vivid colours.”
Taken from the band’s second second album ‘Join The Dots’, the single will be available digitally as well as on tasty coloured 12” vinyl (limited to 600 only) and includes a remix of ‘Conductor’ from The Horrors’ Tom Furse plus a brilliant live session take of ‘You Won’t Be The Same’, recorded for Part Time Punks on the band’s last visit to LA. Digital also comes with a bonus remix of ‘It’s Been So Long’ by Plank.
