To celebrate Indonesia's National Education Day, the governor of Jakarta opened a special kind of school called a "clever house." The idea behind the special school is to make learning extra fun for the kids. Let's go to Jakarta for more.
Yesterday Jakarta's governor, Fauzi Bowo, marked the opening of a "clever house" school, located at Ancol Park.
Indonesia's national education agency along with Ancol Park came up with the idea.
The "clever house" concept creates a studying and playing environment for children, and is an alternative to a stricter school environment. Students will study the regular subjects… science, the humanities, art and literature and has enough room for 50 people.
There are hundreds of books including an encyclopedia collection, documentary films, computers with internet access, educational cartoons, drawing and coloring equipment, and other educational games.
[Fauzi Bowo, Governor of Jakarta]: Male
"Here, knowledge is presented in a relaxed, communicative environment. Children gain much knowledge and also develop the spirit to find out what they want to know. We support this effort, because it gives children an environment to better understand formal education in school."
The "clever house" idea will be adopted across Indonesia… including small villages and children's jails.
