Tibetans Resume March to Homeland
Kean Wong:
While envoys of the Dalai Lama and Chinese officials hold talks following a wave of unrest that pushed Tibet to centre stage ahead of the 2008 Olympics, Tibetan exiles in India's northern Kathgodham are resuming their march to homeland.
The marchers who set out on their march back 'home' from the India's northern Uttarakhand say that they are inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's peaceful ways.
[Tenzing Choeying, Marcher]: "The purpose of this peace march is that we are inspired by Gandhiji's Dandi march and these kinds of march because these are peaceful ways of resolving the issue of Tibet, we want to raise the conscious of global citizens and specially Indians to support the Tibetans cause."
The marchers had set off on March 10 as a part of global protests to mark the 49th anniversary of an uprising against Chinese rule. They leave Dharamsala, home to Tibet's spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and the refugees' "government-in-exile".
