When Sony dropped off the new FS700 at AbelCine for some quick tests, we put it to work right away. We wanted to test many things, but focused on low-light performance, dynamic range, and the camera’s slow-motion options. The FS700 is an updated model of the FS100, so much of our testing also compared these two cameras.
In the third video, I wanted to have some fun shooting slow-motion with the camera. I started out by striking a lighter at frame…

For the second test I wanted to see the dynamic range of the camera, so we put it on the scopes to see how it did. The FS700…

The first thing I wanted to test was the FS700′s low light performance; I checked the camera’s noise levels and how it performed…
Sony just announced the NEX-FS700 camera and, lucky for us, they brought it by for a quick peek. It has all the features of the FS100 but with some big improvements including a 3G-SDI output, ND filters and high-speed recording options. Of course, the really big news is that the camera is “4k Ready,” meaning that in the future it will be able to output 4K 12-bit RAW data over the 3G-SDI connection. The list price of the camera will be around $10,000,…
Last year, MYT Works introduced several slider systems, which are also convertible into small camera dollies or hi-hats. At NAB 2012, they expanded their offerings with a range of camera motion and positioning tools. An adjustable leg support system allows placement almost anywhere and new supports allow for under-slinging. A motorized motion control system can be added to any MYT Works slider system. Additionally, a unique expanding plate allows…
We stopped by the OConnor booth to check out their latest products, including their updated 1030D head. The 1030D has an impressive counterbalance system that gives accurate balance at any point of the tilt range. It will also counterbalance down to zero, which is great when working with lighter-weight camera systems. The 1030D also features a new crank-style counterbalance control and an action brake that unlocks the pan and tilt with a single-handed…
Kino Flo introduced a new light at NAB 2012, and, for the first time, it’s not a fluorescent. The Celeb 200 is a variable color LED fixture, about the size and output of a Diva 400. The Celeb 200 is fully dimmable and can accept honeycomb crates to control spill. It can be plugged in anywhere in the world and is built to be both rugged and lightweight. The light’s most remarkable feature is the addressable color temperature, from 2700-5500 Kelvin;…
Angenieux has recognized the changing needs in 35mm format glass, introducing several interesting upgraded products. Their workhorse large zooms, the 17-80 and the 24-290, have been transformed into 19.5-94 and 28-340 lenses. This shift now allows them to cover the larger image circles of the ARRI ALEXA Studio, Phantom Flex and RED Epic. Angenieux also introduced a zoom servo handgrip, which can attach to any of their five small zooms. Watch my video…
Just think about it… What if you were trapped under something heavy and the mouse was out of your reach? Scary, right? That's exactly why we have these keyboard shortcuts so you can still use Vimeo until the help arrives.
