Alan Sorrenti copre un ruolo fondamentale nella storia della musica italiana, in qualità di cantante e autore/compositore dallo stile unico e inconfondibile,che si è sempre rinnovato nel corsodi quasi 4 decenni,interpretando e spesso anticipando il gusto e le tendenze delle nuove generazioni.
Nato a Napoli da padre partenopeo e madre gallese,una combinazione che fa di lui un cantante non tipicamente italiano,Alan cresce con il “progressive rock” inglese degli inizi anni ’70,che finirà per caratterizzare le sue prime produzioni mentre la sua voce si ispira alle originali modulazioni di un eccentrico ed innovativo cantautore californiano,Tim Buckley, che Alan riconoscerà come suo mae-stro.
Debutta con l’album”Aria”(EMI 1972) che ottiene il premio della critica discografica come miglior album dell’anno e che si avvale della preziosa collaborazione di Jean Luc Ponty, violinista francese famoso per aver introdotto nel jazz l’uso del violino elettrico e per le sue collaborazioni con Frank Zappa ed Elton John.
Il singolo “Vorrei incontrarti”tratto da questo album finisce per diventare una delle canzoni simbolo della generazione ribelle post ’68.
Il suo secondo album”Come un vecchio incensiere all’alba di un villaggio deserto”(EMI 1973),registrato e prodotto a Londra,ospita musicisti appartenenti a gruppi significativi della scena progressive inglese,come i Van der Graf Generator, ed è contaminata dalle vibrazioni psichedeliche dei Pink Floyd.
Nel suo terzo album”Alan Sorrenti”(EMI 1974),l’artista ripropone in una chiave assolutamente originale e dissacratoria il classico napoletano ”Dicitencello Vuje”che entra nelle Top 10 italiane.
Un anno dopo Alan,di ritorno da un illuminante quanto avventuroso viaggio in Africa che gli rivela la forza comunicativa del ritmo,decide di volare oltreoceano in California insieme ali’ormai compa-gno di viaggio,amico e produttore Corrado Bacchelli, per dare alla sua musica un volto nuovo.
A San Francisco realizza il suo quarto album ”Sienteme it’s time to land”(EMI 1976),con una band locale di "fusion" che lo accompagnerà in tour x una serie di concerti in Italia,arrangiati x l'occasione da Mark Isham,noto compositore americano di musiche x film.
Di ritorno dal tour Alan si stabilisce a Los Angeles dove risiederà per 5 anni.
Qui incontra musicisti della West Coast tra cui Jay Graydon,allora produttore di Al Jereau.
Di lì a poco Il leggendari chitarrista californiano produrrà l'album di maggior successo di Alan Sor-renti, “Figli delle Stelle”(EMI 1977),oltre un milione di copie vendute solo in Italia, con la produ-zione esecutiva di Corrado Bacchelli e la partecipazione del pianista David Foster che in seguito produrrà artisti prestigiosi come Tony Braxton e Micheal Bublé.
Il brano “Figli delle Stelle”, tratto dall'album omonimo, diverrà presto l’inno della dance italiana e una "cult-song"x le generazioni future.
Ma la sua canzone più popolare "Tu sei l'unica donna x me" uscirà due anni dopo arrivando nei primi posti in classifica in tutta Europa,specialmente in Germania,Svizzera e Scandinavia e vincendo il Festival Bar,prestigiosa manifestazione canora che si tiene annualmente nell’Arena di Verona.
La canzone faceva parte dell’album”L.A.&N.Y”(EMI 1979), anche questo prodotto negli USA x gran parte dallo stesso team di "Figli delle Stelle",così come l'album successivo”Di Notte”(EMI 1980) di cui la canzone “Non so che darei” si candiderà x l’Italia all’Eurovision Festival.
Ma il singolo successivo ”La strada brucia” e il cd album”Angeli di strada”(RICORDI 1982) e-sprime a sorpresa il rifiuto dell’artista ad essere confinato entro certi modelli di mercato e annuncia l’alba di una rinascita spirituale nonché di una profonda rivoluzione umana che si materializzerà nel mistico cd album “Bonno Soku Bodai”(WEA 1986) e nella successiva conversione dell'artista al “Vero Buddismo di Nichiren Daishonin “.

Qualche anno più tardi Alan Sorrenti ritorna nella sua Londra dove registra,con nuovi arrangiamenti curati dal pianista/arrangiatore Matteo Saggese, la maggior parte dei suoi brani più famosi in un la-voro dal titolo“Radici”(DSB 1992) e da qui inizia ad esplorare la nuova scena musicale internazio-nale, incontrando poi sulla sua strada il dj Alex neri e il programmatoreMarco Baroni, futuri com-ponenti dei “Planet Funk”, con cui realizza 2 nuovi singoli,il primo :“Kyoko mon amour”che viene pubblicato in una raccolta di Greatest Hits “Miami” (EMI 1996) mentre il secondo “Paradiso Be-ach” tratto dal più recente cd album “Sottacqua”(SONY 2003),riceve un’ottima accoglenza da par-te dei network radiofonici balzando all’attenzione delle nuove generazioni.
Di lì a poco esce a sorpresa il cd single “Sottacqua” , la traccia tratta dall’omonimo cd album, in un’ inedita versione pop/post rock accolta con entusiasmo dalla critica specializzata come un gradito ritorno alla ricerca sonora dove Alan Sorrenti riesce a fondere con originalità il caleidoscopico uni-verso delle sue esperienze musicali dagli inizi ad oggi in una forma sempre innovativa.

Alan Sorrenti is an italian recording and performing artist and composer who had been playing a great role in the italian music scene with his very unique way of singing by creating,performing and producing songs for almost 4 decades, always updating his style and many times anticipating the future trends.
He was born in Naples Italy from Italian father and Welsh mother,a combination that made him not a typical italian singer at all.
He grew up inspired by Tim Buckley, a Californian singer and songwriter, recognized for his innovative and original way of singing, and by the english progressive rock of early Seventies that became his style at the beguinning of his career with EMI in 1972, with his debut solo album “Aria”, that received a reward from the critics as “best album of the year”, featuring the famous jazz violinist,Jean Luc Ponty,specially known for being the first who had played the electric violin in jazz music and for his collaboration with Frank Zappa and Elton John.
The single”Vorrei incontrarti” became the hymn of the post ’68 italian generation culture.
The second album “Come un vecchio incensiere all’alba di un villaggio deserto”(EMI 1973)was recorded in London with english musicians and members of acclaimed progressive rock bands like Van der Graf Generator and affected by Pink Floyd’s psychedelic vibes.
His third album”Alan Sorrenti”(EMI 1974) gave an original interpretation a classical napolitan song ”Dicitencello Vuje” wich entered the Top 10 Italian Chart.
But Alan was looking forward, always searching for new ways of expressing himself.
So after an adeventurous journey to Africa,where he descovered the great communicative power of rythm, he came back to Europe with totally new music ideas. So he decided to fly overseas
with his fellow traveller, friend and producer Corrado Bacchelli, to have a taste of the american scene.
In San Francisco,California, he recorded ”Sienteme it’s time to land”(EMI 1976) with a local “fusion” band that accompanied him in tour in Italy.
The concerts were arranged for the occasion by Mark Isham,the famous movie soundtrack composer.
Coming back from the tour Alan finally established himself in Los Angeles where he stayed for 5 years.
On the West Coast he met Jay Graydon ,who at that time was producing Al Jerreau.
The legendary guitarist player produced the most Alan Sorrenti's successfull LP album“Figli delle Stelle”(EMI 1977),with Corrado Bacchelli's executive production and featuring the piano player, David Foster, who later became Tony Braxton and Micheal Bublé producer... among others.
The album sold millions of copies. and the track “Figli delle Stelle” soon became the hymn of italian dance music and a a cult-song for the future generations.
But his most popular song”Tu sei l’unica donna per me” was released two years later and sold all over Europe,specially in Italy Germany and Scandinavia winning the “Festival Bar” the italian Grammy award.
The song was part of the album” ”L.A.&N.Y”(EMI 1979) still produced by the same team, as well as the next one”Di Notte”(EMI 1980) with the new hit single “Non so che darei,”a song that was nominated for the Eurovision Festival in Rotterdam.
The musical event marked the end of a cycle in Alan Sorrenti’s career and the beguinning of his spiritual and artistic rebirth.
In ”La strada brucia” from”Angeli di strada” (Ricordi 1982) he rejected the idea to be kept within limits imposed by the entertainement business whereas in the mystic song “Non si nasce mai una volta sola” from “Bonno Soku Bodai”(WEA 1986), he announced his conversion to the “True Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin”.
Few years later Alan went back to his beloved London where he recorded most of his famous songs produced and newly arrenged by Matteo Saggese who brought a “live touch” to the entire cd album called “Radici”(DSB 1992).
The experience gave Alan the opportunity to explore the new music scene and write new tracks with dj Alex Neri and programmer Marco Baroni,future members of Planet Funk:
“Kyoko mon amour” was released with the “greatest hits” cd album “Miami” (EMI 1996) and “Paradiso Beach” with his latest cd album“Sottacqua” (SONY 2003), that was very welcomed by the radio networks and the new generation audience.
Later on Alan Sorrenti released an unexpected version pop/post rock of the track “Sottacqua”, included in the homonymous cd album, that received excellent reviews from specialized music magazines for his original ability of morphing together the kaleidoscopic universe of his musical experiences, from the early start of his production, through his changes and up to now.
So therefore time seems right for the artist to conceive a multimedia project based on a work of fiction with state of the art audio/visual contents, fully aware of the dramatic transformations-ethical, environmental, technological,scientific and economic-that are striking our global human society.
