Marika Knowles talks about her session in Visual Cultures and the Reception of Old Masters
Student Symposium at The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts
March 16 & 17, 2009
This student symposium is a two-day graduate event held in conjunction with the current exhibition, Ideal [Dis-] Placements: Old Masters at the Pulitzer (October 24, 2008—June 20, 2009). Taking as a starting point the visual experience of Old Masters in the Pulitzer space and the specific influx of natural light in the building, the symposium seeks to raise questions about the history of viewing as well as the relationship between direct phenomenological encounters and the aspirations of art historical and theoretical approaches.
