Castletownbere (Irish: Baile Chaisleáin Bhéarra) is a small town in County Cork in Ireland. It is located on the southwest coast of Ireland, in West Cork, on Berehaven harbour near the entrance to Bantry Bay.
It is also known as Castletown Berehaven. The name of the town comes from the no longer extant MacCarty Castle and not Dunboy Castle, which was home to the Puxley family. The Puxley Castle was burnt by the IRA in 1920. The conflict between the Gaelic former ruling family and newly enriched interlopers formed the basis for Daphne du Maurier's novel "Hungry Hill"
Dursey Island Cable Car
Ireland's only cable car from the mainland to Dursey Island. Departs daily, year-round, from Ballaghboy on the tip of the Beara peninsula, Co. Cork. It is the only cable car in Europe that goes over water!
The island is separated from the mainland by a narrow stretch of water called Dursey Sound which has a very strong tidal race, with a reef of rocks in the centre of the channel which is submerged at high tides
Unfortunately the cable car was in repair
After that we went to Billeragh which has a rough coastline
