This video tutorial explains how to create a bow wave by mixing a displacement map with animated Noise. This is one of many possible approaches. The advantage of this approach is that you have all the control you want concerning the look of the bow wave - the downside is that it only works when the boat is moving in a straight line. Please note that this approach does not use any form of simulation (cloth, dynamics, fluids, ...), so it's very fast and reliable.

The scene with the pirate ship is a preview for my animated short film, "Dream in Color". For more info on the project, check out dreamincolor.eu .

Thanks for watching, I hope this video is helpful. If you have any tutorial requests, be sure to drop them in the comments. I will be posting more tutorials as I advance in the production of my short film, so stay in touch!
