Harry in his own words has been fishing on Lake Hawea since before he was born, he bought the family farm in 1984 and diversified into tourism and fishing in the 1990s. In describing Lake Hawea Harry says “How can you describe that – you’ve just got to live it”.
Harry was born here into one of the old, established farming families in the area. He is one of 6 children - 5 brothers and one sister. His ancestors arrived in Dunedin in 1874 from around Loch Ness and The Isle of Harris in Scotland, where they were landless shepherds and fishermen who later acquired government land grant in the Upper Clutha region.
